History - Essay ExampleIn the 1890 and 1915 elections in the Unite States, the republicans and the democrats joined to draft state laws prohibiting third ships company candidates from having third name on the ballot in presidential elections. Third party candidates are more likely to win elections easily at the local level which whitethorn cost a lot in other aspects of the elections according to Bibby and Schaffner (278). In avoiding this, the American government adopts a unique electoral system of winner-takes-all which allows the domination of both parties only. The third party candidate is said to add more weight on either of the two candidates in an attempt to improve their political agenda after elections. Although these third party candidates rarely emerge as winners, they may fool an impact on the elections. For instance they mostly accused with issue of plunderer impact. Marketing Myopia Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Marketing Myopia - Essay ExampleA growth constancy builds its success by replacement a previous utility or product and it is at risk of such alike risk of replacement by future innovations. Thinking after-school(prenominal) the box is not some initiative to make a difference or of being creative. Rather, it is a crucial component of every organizations attempt for competitive advantage and survival. Levitt argued that there is really no such thing as a growth industry because everything works deep down a cyclical process. Here, an industry or a business may assume its strength because of the unchallenged superiority of the product, which displaced another that it has substituted. His evidences are legitimate and numerous. He cited the experiences of many an(prenominal) industries that were considered boom sectors but eventually declined after some(prenominal) years. The cycle features organizations and products constantly replacing another because of wrong management perspecti ve. The examples provided were the dry cleaning industry, the railroad industry and the grocery stores. Levitt also predicted that the electric utilities and gadgetry is in danger of the same trouble because technologies will then be discovered to suffer newer and more efficient products. The liking is that when managers fail to think outside the box beyond the periphery of their visions, their products tend to be swallowed by the cycle. On the other hand, once management think astir(predicate) the future and the decline of their product so that they are able to provide solutions and new innovations that will replace their own, competitors will have less opportunities for competitive advantage. more of Levitts arguments are anchored on one simple principle that survival for industries rests on perspectives. There are industries that are focused on their products and, hence, myopic in their management models. For example, the railroad company was focused on their product, which is the railroad. Had they opted to adopt a perspective that went beyond it, they would have thought about their business as that of shipping and, hence, was able to prevent the decline of their profits. Personally, I have experienced this myopia on account of my work experiences with three industries. For example, I worked for an Auto dealership several years ago. Now the management of this organization has been focused much on automobiles. For several months of my stay, I saw how such singularity in objective has put up the sales of the organization. Clients are not only interested in cars but they look for things and services that go with it. For example, when sales people have everything there is to neck about cars, we cannot answer questions about technology like how their mobile phones can be integrated with car accessories, for example. This is because we did not have them no products offered beyond cars and, hence, we cannot offer services, much less the know-how. So fewe r clients came to visit because we cannot offer more. The clients did not come because they did not want to. There was no reason to. This was also the same with some companies in the moving and storage company, which I was connected with for a time. There was a lot of opportunities either as additional services within moving and storage and related and new products and services that could have been served and provided customers the value and convenience of having many services at one outlet or in a single transaction. I can see many other industries not cited in the article that display marketing myopia. For example, there is the

Managing Organisations Business Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Managing Organisations Business - Assignment ExampleThis calls for very skilled conductors that are well aware of their roles. The following is an account of my get laid with a manger in a banking institution. The Experience (278 words) I was working with a bank in the UK. As a customer care officer, I had many experiences with the customers as well as the bank manager. Though this company was successful, I still believe that it could achieve even more success if the manager did not face the many difficulties that he was facing in his work. The company could hardly match its ideals with the realities of each day, meetings were poorly planned and recorded, decision making was willy-nilly done, there were inadequate control procedures instituted, and no clear ways of dealing with unsatisfactory behavior or work performance. However, the manager worked very hard to vouch that these problems were appropriately dealt with. Therefore, he started having trust and confidence in all those involved in the company. As Thomas, (1987, pp 729) states about qualities of a rock-steady manager, I believe he was a good manager because he was good in both personal and interpersonal skills like communication with the staff. Other skills that he applied were the great unwashed oriented roles like teamwork, resource investigation, and co-ordination. He observed action oriented roles like implementing the desired goals of the company. ... Integrating Theory with Experience (342 words) According to Mintzberg (1973, pp 2), a good manager observes the following managerial roles information, decision and interpersonal roles. Information roles involve assimilation and dissemination of information as required, and when it is required. Therefore, a good manager in an organization should be very effective in monitoring and collecting information from inside and outside the organization, communicate information to organizations members, and being a spokesman by representing the organizat ion outside. In this case, I believe that the manger was playing a good role because he always engaged in interpersonal and personal communication with the staff. However, his representation of the organization outside, especially to potential customers, was very poor because he mainly relied on the salespersons. The theory of Mintzberg (1973, pp. 2) besides states that a good manger should also play the role of decision making. In this area, he has to initiate new ideas that ill improve the performance of the organization, handle disturbances by taking corrective actions that aim at coping with adverse situations, be a resource allocator by effectively allocating monetary, physical, and human resources. Finally, he should also be a negotiator. This involves negotiating with other stake holders and trade unions. Though the manager was good at initiating new ideas, he failed on the part of handling disturbances because he always blamed others incase of a problem instead of effective ly solving the problem. He rarely negotiated for the company with trade unions. Thus regular strikes were undergo that yielded heavy losses. However, he was a

Will China revalue its currencyCauses of devaluation Mechanisms Essay

Will mainland China revalue its currencyCauses of devaluation Mechanisms Implications - Essay ExampleIt follows the laws of the fixed exchange regime where the currency is devalued and revalued at will. For years, China maintained a fixed exchange rate allowing to appreciate at its will. It has, now and again, manipulated its currency to gain a competitive advantage in the globose switch market and it has allowed China to maintain supreme dominance over the world markets. Nonetheless, the country has been facing immense pressure since a decade to boast the currency in the open market and allow the currency to appreciate to a free rate. China did allow appreciation for a time, but at a gradual pace with interruptions. (Murphy 2009) The world continues to ask will China revalue its currency? The essay will show justifications for both sides it will provide the reasons behind the devaluation, the mechanisms used as well as implications on an undervalued Yuan. The essay will end wit h a strong conclusion followed by recommendations. At present, economists debate that the Chinese currency is still undervalued by 15 to 20 percent. They opine that the revaluation will usefulness the global economies and help reduce the increasing trade deficits. However, the Chinese politicians believe that the revaluation will hurt their economy and growth as well as their political control. (Johnson 2013) Causes of Devaluation In the domestic sphere, analysts, in the Chinese circle, believe that revaluation will make their exports expensive compared to today. This consequential drop in Chinese exports will lead to several immediate factory shutdowns while many others will shift to the low wage economies such as Vietnam and Sri Lanka. (Johnson 2010) This will upset the economy as a whole especially the workings class. The resulting unemployed from the layoffs and shutdowns in the remote areas will non easily be absorbed into the economy. This will create anti government senti ments and result in separate mass incidents around China. (Johnson 2010) Any significant appreciation of the renminbi will erode Chinas export competitiveness overnight and impact the livelihood of tens of millions of workers1, states an editor in chief at China Daily media agency. Likewise, Chinese politicians strongly believe that the currency reforms, pushed by the US and other global powers, are only means to mental retardation its economy and contain growing Chinese power. These politicians refer to similar US policies towards Japan in 1980s. Japan stills reels from the effects of the real estate bubble ruin caused by the forced US policies. Therefore, the Chinese are eager not to repeat the same episode. (Lee 2010) (Murphy 2009) Similarly, China thinks alike all the economic powers of the world. It first thinks approximately the domestic affairs especially employment figures before working towards rebalancing of the macroeconomic indicators around the world. In the afterm ath of the financial crisis 2008, the Chinese lost 20 to 40 million jobs related to the export oriented industries. This forced Chinese to put an to the revaluation thoughts for some time. (Lee 2010) A research conducted by the Chinese authorities on the streets showed that a percent appreciation in the value of Yuan will lead to a percent decline in the tiny profit margins of the modest export oriented companies. Economists opine that an undervalue Yuan is critical for sustaining the Chinese growth therefore, all the intimidating by the world leaders will not change the Chinese policy. Revaluation will benefit China in the Long Run Other economists believe that the revaluation of Yuan will benefit China in the long run. It will do more good than harm. Economists know that, at present, the Chinese economy is heavily depending on exports and fixed investment and not on the local consumption. It must revalue its

Prescription Drugs Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Prescription Drugs - Term Paper ExampleWhat is fueling the rise in prescription drugs costs? A number of factors are accounted for the rise in prescription drugs costs, such as 1. Rise in demand Much of the increase in prescription drugs costs is attributed to the rising demand, consumption and utilization of prescription drugs. Ageing population, rise of lifestyle and chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and first and specialty diseases such as Alzheimers etc. have led to high consumption of prescription drugs in U.S. Hence, leading to higher government disbursal on medical drugs. 2. Increase in drug development costs The average costs to develop a new drug therapy increased by more than 60% from 2000 to 2005 hence leading to higher prescription drug prices for ripe medicines (PhRMA, 2011). 3. Direct to Consumer Marketing and Advertising particularly for higher priced drugs by pharmaceutical companies has also driven the demand, sales and general spending levels. 4. Price Inflation Retail prescription drugs prices have increased around 3.6% annually during 2000 and 2009, higher than the avg. swelling rate of 2.5% (Kaiser Foundation, 2010). It is estimated that prescription drug spending growth would undergo a slower pace until 2017 when high utilization would accelerate the demand for prescription drugs (Keehan, et al., 2008). The perpetual rise in demand due to ageing population and rise of innovative medicines will resume to upsurge the prescription drug expenditures for current and rising years. Drug development costs for innovative drugs will continue to rise, however, due to a number of patent expiries and higher penetration of generics medicines will balance the overall increase in such costs. The prices of mature drugs would fall in the future due to generic entries and price reviews by federal and state governments whereas prices of new innovative medicines

Factors an Organization Needs To Consider When Developing a Global Assignment - 1

Factors an Organization Needs To Consider When Developing a Global Staffing Strategy - Assignment ExampleThis paper illustrates that the globose rounding strategy would incorporate the perspectives of the people as to how they view the entire working mechanism of the world and what the different nations bring to the fore with their respective working realms so creating and eventually developing a worldwide staffing strategy is a Herculean task if seen within the proper scheme of things as it cultivates a sense of believe and empathy within the region where the headquarters are located. The expatriates working within the different nations of the world is an enticing opportunity for the staffing avenues that rescue shaped up with the passage of time. The global staffing strategy with regards to these expatriates gets its basis from the concern hierarchies which are present within the organization itself. It is their decision to find out how the organization will have its own sta ff situated at the different locations worldwide, where it exists to satisfy the varied customers. What is interesting to note here is the fact that these people who are recruited could either be from the locations where the office domains have been set up or recruited from the headquarters themselves. The need is to select and hire people who understand the dictum of the organization more than anything else, and this can only be done through an understanding which is based on the collective understanding of the global staffing strategy which has been in place now for some amount of time. If the proper(a) people get hired at the different locations where the business is run, this would mean that the entire organization would benefit as a result of the same. However, if this is not the case, thence the global staffing strategy would implicate to a failure without a doubt, and this would mean that the recruiting issues have not been resolved in an amicable fashion. The role of the hu man resources management departments within the headquarters and the separate locations all around the world are significantly more so because they perform tasks which could be easily replicated across the identity card if proper vision and a sense of purpose exist. If there is a lack of such visionary elements, then this would suggest for a lack of intuition on the part of the global staffing strategy that has been adopted by the organization.

Reflective journal on HRM Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Reflective journal on HRM - Essay ExampleWhile the HRM begin considerable top executives over the employees the ethical code amongst these HRM is not constant through out. The article describes the role of HRM in controlling the problems faced by the employees. However if the HRM himself is diagonal or partial the decision taken by him would not comply with the ethical code of charitable Resource practice. This partiality shown by the HRM for their employees can come along deepen the problem faced by the company. To solve the issues faced by the employees Dispute Resolution procedures are applied. These Dispute Resolutions help the employees to put forward their issues and kick the bucket them solved accordingly. However due to the impartialities amongst the HRM the Dispute Resolution system is going through a lot of problems. As emphasized in this article a Dispute Resolution system should always involve neutral judges. The judges here can be referred to as the Human Resource Managers working in the companies. The article emphasizes further on the neutrality and partially practiced by the Human Resource Managers. The HRM should not have a relationship of any fashion with the employees as this may affect the decisions taken by them in regard to the complaints inclined to them. The article emphasizes on the fact that favoritism should be removed from the Human Resource system as this affects the decisions and further makes the decision unequal to one party. The Human Resource Managers should have a neutral stance towards the weak and the stiff party so that even if the designerful party commits any mistake it is brought back to the terms and conditions applied by the company. Furthermore the article describes the role of the HRM with conformism to the new legislation which was introduced in Australia in 2005. This legislation is known as the Work Choices Act. This legislation has given more powers to the HRM i.e. they can dismiss workers without settl ing their disputes. This power provided to the HRM could be used in a negative way too as at times the HRM would prefer dismissing the workers rather than settling the issue between the workers. The legislation has provided an edge to the HRM and the employers over the workers. As these powers vested to both the HRM and employers would help them in dismissing the workers without settling their issues. This would affect the overall ethical code of the company. As I personally have experienced having a dispute between my co-workers I think that the Human Resource Manager plays an important role in resolving the disputes and the power vested to them can be used in the negative way. The co-workers who have an understanding with the Human Resource Managers are preferred by them over other workers. As my issue was solved by a HR manager who was neutral, I figured out that HR manager played an important role in resolving the companys problems. However if the HR manager is biased the decis ions passed by them would not comply with the ethical code and terms. The HR manager should not be given the powers to dismiss workers as these powers given to them would help them to dismiss the workers directly rather than solving their issues. The HR manager should be selected by the employer with extreme caution as he is the main person in handling the internal issues of the company. The HR manager s
